Broadening access to clean energy: Órigo Energia’s commitment to affordable renewable energy in Brazil is embedded on its mission statement: “Mainstream the consumption of renewable energy in Brazil. Build a future where renewable energy is accessible to all and instill a culture of reasonable, efficient and transparent consumption with simplified bills”. Focused on the solar distributed generation market, Órigo Energia offers SMEs and households a turn-key solution to clean energy―a simple, efficient and scalable alternative to a more sustainable and conscious consumption. Órigo Energia also has a public commitment to donate part of the energy produced in each solar plant to NGOs and institutions that are aligned with its purpose.
Complementarity and innovation to the energy matrix: Órigo Energia is a pioneer and leading company in the solar distributed generation market in Brazil, a country where the energy matrix has historically been dominated by utility-scale hydroelectric generation. It was the first company to build a photovoltaic power plant for distributed energy in Brazil―known as solar farms―, an innovative business model that offers solar energy to households and SMEs for monthly subscription plans since 2017.
Fostering a low-carbon future: Renewable low impact energy is the core of Órigo Energia’s business. Energy produced by its solar farms allows for SMEs and households to reduce their environmental footprint―every gigawatt hour of energy produced avoids the emission of c.55 tons of CO2, the equivalent to c.400 trees. Via the distributed generation model, clients are able to opt for a more sustainable and conscious consumption even when they do not have the technical feasibility or capital to invest.
Commitment to gender equality and diversity: Órigo Energia is signatory of the “Business Coalition for Racial and Gender Equality”, developed by Ethos Instituto in partnership with the Center of Studies of Work Relations and Inequalities (CEERT, in Portuguese acronym) and the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB), with support from Movimento Mulher 360, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the program Newton Fund, offered by the British government and Council. Participants of the Business Coalition commit to promote diversity both as a commercial strategy and a business model.
Sustainable practices: Órigo Energia led initiatives such as (i) monitoring the Company’s carbon footprint, (ii) committing to the adoption of at least one NGO (preferably related to children education and health) per solar farm to donate energy, and (iii) creation of a volunteer program for its employees.
The company has also received several international recognitions. Órigo Energia is a Certified B Corporation due to the commitment to social and environmental impact of its operations. Additionally, it achieved a platinum impact rating under GIIRS Rating system in 2018, received the Latin America Green Award in 2019 (recognizes the 500 best initiatives that are aligned with the UN’s SDGs), the ECO Award in Brazil in 2019 (aims at honoring the best companies and business management practices for sustainability in Brazil), and was granted with the “Solar Label”, which is an initiative launched by the Institute for Development of Alternative Energies in Latin America with the support of KfW (German Development Bank).
